Hurricane Kristy Tracker: Category 5 Storm Gets Stronger, Endangers the Baja Coast Now Track of Hurricane Kristy: According to the most recent National Hurricane Center (NHC) data, Hurricane Kristy has strengthened into a strong Category 5 storm in the Pacific Ocean with sustained gusts of up to 160 mph. At a steady 16 mph, Kristy is currently traveling west, some 650 miles southwest of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico. Although the storm is projected to stay away from land, by the weekend, hazardous seas are predicted to reach the Baja coast, bringing with them potentially fatal surf and rip current conditions.
